Includes records of the 1st (Hallamshire) Volunteer Battalion (1881-1908), the 4th (Hallamshire) Battalion (1908-1924), and after a name change in 1924, the Hallamshire Battalion. Also, records relating to the Yorkshire Volunteers, the successor of the Hallamshire Battalion (T.A.) from 1967. Approximately one third of the items are photographic material; the remainder include Battalion histories and a detailed log book, nominal rolls and casualty lists, Mess records, administrative records, mobilisation and operational records, narrative accounts, newsletters and magazines, records of the Fontenay Club, research on the Battalion during the Second World War, related material and ephemera.
