| Description | Short annual summaries up to 1804, then written as a diary describing the actions and events in which the Battalion was involved. Records any casualties, appointments and promotions, important visitors, camps and troop movements, with comments on relevant matters such as climate, landscape, changes in uniform and receipt of new weapons. Extracts from the London Gazette, reports, orders, letters and tables of staff distribution are copied out. Enclosed at the end are photocopies of a photograph of Col. Byam, Commanding the Regiment, a presscutting on the presentation of Sudan medals and a diary for the dates 28 Feb to 2 Mar 1884 and 10 to 16 Mar 1884 headed 'Battle of Tamaai'. |
