Accompanied by service papers concerning his discharge and notice to join the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders (1911), a certificate congratulating him on ten years service as the Bandmaster for Kilmarnock Burgh Military Band (1944), nine black and white photographs of him in uniform, with other members of the Kilmarnock Burgh Military Band and then playing his trumpet in later life (circa. 1889-1950), as well as a book titled 'Trumpet and Bugle Sounds for the Army', published in 1927.
Frederick Campbell Oddy was a musician born in Camberwell, London in 1875. He enlisted with the 2nd Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment in 1889, he was selected to undertake musical training at Kneller Hall, and then became the bandmaster for the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders in 1911. Later he served with the Kilmarnock Burgh Military Band up until 1944. |
