Place Entry/Alpha Place/East Dene/Rotherham/West Riding of Yorkshire
NotesAlpha Place was a short cul-de-sac of early 19th century houses off Far Lane, East Dene, Rotherham. These houses were originally isolated and surrounded by farmland, but in the 1920's the surrounding area became the East Dene housing estate. The houses on Alpha Place were demolished in the 1960s when a low rise development known as The Lanes was erected on the site. According to an account by John Guest the plot of land called 'Alpha' was purchased by the Rotherham and Masbrough Benefit Building and Investment Society (formerly the Temperance Benefit Building Society) , a land allotment society in 1843 and bulit upon.
