Description | Case Papers Defence of the Realm Losses Commission
Claim by the Leeds Fireclay Company for damage resulting from interference with their Harehills Mine. The Company were members of the West Yorkshire Coalowners' Association. In 1919 the workmen demanded an increase in wage rate as their working hours had been reduced in accordance with the Sankey Report. The West Yorkshire Coalowners' Association agreed to this, but the board of trade (who were running the colliery during WWI) refused. The workmen then went of strike and the mine flooded and was destroyed. (inlcudes correspondence and proofs of evidence)
