DescriptionIncludes a copy of the works of Shakespeare published by the League of the Empire Kitchener Souvenir Committee, and given to Private William Hill (32970), who was disabled whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment (1916), together with a scanned copy of a photograph of him with fellow soldiers whilst serving on the Western Front. Accompanied by photocopies of his marriage certificate and service papers (2022).

William Hill was born in 1850 and married Edith Shepherdson in 1912. They had three sons together called George, William and Dunstan. William Hill served as a private with the 2nd Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment during the First World War. He lost his sight and his left leg fighting in France and suffered due to his shrapnel wounds before being discharged in 1919. He went on to be rehabilitated at St. Dunstans.
