DescriptionIncludes a pocket diary kept by William Hoyle (1918), recounting his being called up aged 18, his service in the trenches as a private with the 3rd Battalion on the Western Front, his convalescence in hospital in Scotland and his feelings on the Armistice. Also with his soldiers service and pay book (1918-1919), his discharge certificate (1919), his protection certificate and certificate of identity (1919), his certificate of employment during the war, with character reference (1919), a blank return of great coat receipt (n.d.) and a blank plain clothes receipt (n.d.), five signed photographs from men that he served with in the York and Lancaster Regiment (circa. 1918), a group photograph showing him with other soldiers at 'Kimnel Camp' in North Wales (1918 and a further group photograph of soldiers and nurses at 'Rollestine Camp' at Salisbury Plains (September 1918). Accompanied by a photocopy of her service record (n.d.) and a typescript transcription of the diary by Linda Fletcher (2018).
