DescriptionAgreement as to maintenance of boundary hedges betwen Rawmarsh & Greasbrough fields
(1) Thomas Fytzwill[ia]m, esquire for the township of Rawmarshe
(2) John Wombewell , esquire for the birelawe of Giresbrooke
Agreed that:
(i) the township of Rawmarsh is to make hedges between the fields of Rawmarsh & Greasbrough from the longe Rowe between the fields of Greasbrough to Sanct Marie Rowe.
(ii) the township of the Overhalgh to make hedges from Sanct Marie's Rowe to the Bromdike yat sufficient to keep out all animals except geese & unyoked swine.
(iii) the birelawe of Greasbrough is to make hedges from longe Rowe to the Ingbrooke.
If any Rawmarsh animals break into Giresbrooke feild because of a fault in the hedge which Greasbrough maintains then the residents of Rawmarsh can enter to retrieve their beasts without any 'pynship' * which the owner of the ground will have to pay. The same is to apply if Greasbrough animals stray into Rawmarsh field.
4 men elected by the townships to supervise the hedges and ensure they are made by St Helen's day [18th August] with a penalty of 3s 4d for the owner of the ground where the hedge is not adequate, the proceeds of any fines to be divided equally between Rawmarsh church & Greasbrough chapel.

13th April [ ] Edward IV [ (1) can be identified as Thomas Fitzwilliam of Aldwarke who came of age in January 1469 so the document is unlikely to predate this. It may postdate his father's death in 1480. It also precedes his knighthood]
* 'pynship' Stray animals were rounded up by the township's pinder and held in the pinfold until they were claimed and a fine or pinship was paid by the owner.
